What a fantastic start to our brand-new Squirrels Drey! 🎉

We welcomed 13 young people and 5 leaders for our very first meeting, and what a brilliant bunch they were!

The evening was all about getting to know each other, having fun and making new friends. We:

🎲 Played lots of fun games

👋 Learnt each other’s names

😂 Got to know our fellow Squirrels

🧵 Made our very own Squirrel-themed friendship bracelets

There were plenty of smiles, laughter and excitement as our newest members began their Scouting journey together.

We’re so excited to watch our little Drey grow over the coming weeks and can’t wait to see what adventures are ahead! 🌳🐿️✨

Our summer camp wasn’t just about activities, adventures and making memories — it was also a chance to recognise some truly outstanding service to Scouting.

🌟 Congratulations to Bob Howard – Silver Acorn

At camp, we were incredibly proud to celebrate Bob being awarded the Silver Acorn for an amazing 51 years of service to Scouting — and counting!

For over five decades, Bob has given his time, energy and experience to generations of young people. His continued commitment to the Scout section and to Scouting more widely is something truly special.

51 years is an incredible milestone, and we’re delighted to have Bob as part of our group. We’re sure there are still plenty more adventures to come! 👏

🏅 Congratulations to Nick Banister – 10 Year Service Award

We were also pleased to recognise Nick Banister with his 10 Year Service Award, celebrating a decade of continued support to the Scout section.

Nick has worked alongside Bob and the wider team, helping to provide opportunities, adventures and experiences for our Scouts over the years. His commitment and willingness to support the section are hugely appreciated.

👏 Two awards, 61 years of combined service, and an enormous contribution to our young people.

From everyone at 14th Walthamstow Scout Group, congratulations and, most importantly, thank you Bob and Nick for everything you do!

⚜️ Here’s to many more years of Scouting!

At our most recent Cubs meeting, we held an engaging and practical cycle maintenance session. Cubs were encouraged to bring their bikes along and take part in learning key skills to help them look after their own equipment.

Throughout the evening, they explored basic bike checks, troubleshooting common issues, and how to carry out simple repairs. One of the main highlights was learning how to fix a puncture—an essential and empowering skill for any young cyclist.

The session was a fantastic opportunity for Cubs to build confidence, develop independence, and work together in a supportive environment. We’re incredibly proud of how well they all got involved.

This weekend our Cubs headed off for their Back to Basics Camp, where they spent time learning brilliant outdoor skills, building confidence and having loads of fun in the forest. Across the weekend they learnt how to light fires safely, cooked their own pitta pizzas, built shelters using natural materials and then put them to the test with buckets of water to see how well they held up! Of course, no camp would be complete without some tasty treats, so the Cubs toasted s’mores over the fire and even had a go at making fire-baked bread. The adventure was topped off with a night-time treasure hunt and plenty of free play in the forest, giving everyone the chance to explore, work together and enjoy being outdoors.
